Awareness Day on Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Students and a group of faculty members from the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture in El Oued participated, via videoconferencing, in an awareness day entitled “The Dangers of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances”. The event was organized by the National Gendarmerie Command and hosted by the University of Ouargla.
This initiative was part of the national efforts to combat the growing phenomenon of drug abuse and the use of psychotropic substances within Algerian society, particularly in educational environments.
In this context, the President of the Regional University Conference officially launched the event through remote conferencing technology. The awareness program opened with a series of valuable and informative presentations delivered by representatives of the National Gendarmerie Command and the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology of the National Gendarmerie.
Within the same framework, Colonel Yassine BOUMRAH, from the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology, delivered an insightful presentation entitled “The Reality of Drugs in Algeria: Key Cases Handled by National Gendarmerie Units and the Impact of Drug and Psychotropic Substance Use on Students’ Physical and Mental Health.”
Additionally, the Head of the Regional Judicial Police Department addressed, in his intervention, the reasons behind the targeting of university students by drug trafficking networks, as well as recent developments in the legal framework for the prevention of drug and psychotropic substance abuse.
