The Second Study Days on Saharan Agriculture: Student–Farmer Encounter
The Second Study Days on Saharan Agriculture, entitled “Student–Farmer Encounter”, were officially launched on Wednesday, 03 December 2025, at the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture in El Oued, under the patronage of the Governor of El Oued Province. The School was honored by the distinguished presence of the Governor , accompanied by the President of the Provincial People’s Assembly and several senior local officials. The opening ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem. This was followed by an address delivered by the Director of the School, Professor Elhabib GUEDDA, in which he expressed his sincere appreciation to the governor for his personal patronage of the event. He highlighted the importance of such encounters with the School’s partners—farmers, livestock breeders, and investors in the agricultural sector—in supporting the integration of students into the professional agricultural environment. In his speech, Mr. Larbi BAHLOUL, the Governor of El Oued Province, praised the efforts of the School’s academic and administrative staff. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure high-quality training for students and to further strengthen their integration into the agricultural sector. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to the development and modernization of agriculture in a manner that meets citizen’s needs and aligns with the national strategic priorities, particularly food security. He also commended the remarkable efforts of the people of El Oued in general, and farmers in particular. Following the official opening, the Chair of the event, Dr. Hafsa BEN RAS, took the floor to outline the objectives of the study days. She presented an analytical overview of the survey results, prepared with the participation of the School’s faculty members, aimed at diagnosing the main challenges faced by farmers and livestock breeders in El Oued Province, particularly those related to animal production and plant health.
