Field Visit to the COSIDER Agricultural Farm

Fourth-year students enrolled in the State Engineering Programme in Agricultural Sciences, specializing in Plant Protection, participated in a two-day scientific field visit to the COSIDER Agricultural Farm in Gerguit Sfiha, Babar District, Khenchela Province, on 29–30 April 2026. The visit, organized by the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture, offered students an enriching learning experience that combined academic knowledge with practical field applications in crop production and plant protection.

The field visit was supervised by Dr. Randa MLIK, Dr. Kamel Eddine MAKHLOUF, and Dr. Abdelmounaim KHEMMOULI, who guided students through a series of field-based demonstrations and technical explanations focusing on modern agricultural practices.

During the visit, students gained valuable insights into the techniques and equipment employed in land preparation for wheat cultivation. They were introduced to the various fertilizers and crop protection products commonly used during this stage of production and were provided with detailed explanations of their applications and benefits. The visit also offered an opportunity to explore multi-span greenhouse systems and centre-pivot irrigation technologies utilized in large-scale wheat farming.

Students further enhanced their understanding of plant health management through practical observations of common wheat diseases, learning how to identify them in the field and becoming familiar with modern approaches to their prevention and control.

Beyond the technical aspects of crop production, the visit enabled students to develop a broader understanding of agricultural enterprise management and the effective utilization of available resources to support the development of cereal production systems.

The field visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their practical skills, deepen their scientific knowledge, and gain greater insight into the realities of professional practice in the field of Plant Protection.

Through initiatives of this kind, the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture continues to promote experiential learning and provide students with opportunities to engage directly with contemporary agricultural practices, thereby enhancing their academic training and preparing them for successful professional careers.

The Higher School of Saharan Agriculture extends its sincere appreciation to all supervisors and staff involved in the organization of this field visit for their dedication, hospitality, and contribution to its success.
