Technical Day on Water Economics and Management in Agriculture
On Thursday, 23 April 2026, the Director of the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture in El Oued, accompanied by a group of the School’s students, participated in the Technical Day on Water Economics and Management in Agriculture. The event was organized by the Saharan Hydrographic Basin Agency in coordination with El Oued Chamber of Agriculture and the Higher School of Saharan Agriculture.
This technical event was held as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the importance of the rational and sustainable management of water resources within the agricultural sector, particularly in arid and Saharan regions where groundwater constitutes a primary source of supply. The gathering also provided a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices among stakeholders and professionals involved in agricultural and water resource management.
The programme featured a series of technical presentations and expert interventions addressing strategies for optimizing water consumption, improving irrigation efficiency, and tackling challenges associated with the sustainable exploitation of water resources. In addition, successful experiences and innovative practices in water-saving agricultural operations were showcased and discussed.
The participation of the School’s students contributed significantly to the scientific and technical discussions, further enriching the exchanges while strengthening their academic training through the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical field applications. This aligns with the School’s commitment to preparing highly qualified professionals capable of addressing the challenges of sustainable agricultural development in Saharan environments.
At the conclusion of the event, participants emphasized the importance of sustaining such scientific and educational initiatives, which play a vital role in promoting a culture of water conservation and reinforcing the principles of sustainability within the agricultural sector.
